Boating
Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons' premier course for the recreational boater.
The Boating Course is the initial boating instructional program offered by Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons (CPS). CPS has offered a boating course in Canada since 1938.
Whether you are interested in power, sail, or canoe, this course is for you. It contains expanded, detailed boating-safety information. As well, the challenge of plotting and navigation skills, and the interaction with other boaters all await you in this exciting, "chock-full-of-info" course. Successful completion of an "accredited" examination at the end of certain sections will allow you to achieve operator competency and a Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC), as well as one year CPS Associate Membership. Successful completion of the examination(s) at the end of the entire course will grant you one year Regular Membership and all its associated benefits, along with the PCOC.
In the classroom, the Boating Course consists of in-class lectures with reading assignments. Homework questions at the end of each section ensure retention of the information presented. It is a full-scale night school course, usually taught in 13 weeks, one two-hour night per week.
