CPS Membership

The only requirement for becoming a regular member of CPS and the Britannia–Rideau Squadron is to successfully pass the Boating Course. The annual fee for regular members is $43.00. Additional family memberships are $23.00.

Associate membership may be obtained by passing the CPS BoatPro Course. The annual membership fee for associate members is $43.00.

  • Personal Satisfaction Knowing that you have successfully completed a boating course and achieved the confidence and skill that makes a better and safer boater.
  • Insurance: Enjoy savings through CPS Members' Boat Insurance Program with additional discounts for completed courses.
  • Running Fix, our Squadron newsletter, and Port Hole, our national magazine (published quarterly as part of Canadian Yachting magazine, sent directly to members' homes.
  • Instructors and Proctors Volunteers to assist the students. Upon completion of the Boating Course, you will be able to extend your boating season by volunteering to pass on some of your new found knowledge to the next class, or to assume a role in managing the Squadron.
  • Legislation & Regulations: Committees at both the National and District levels keep us informed of proposed changes that affect boaters. The Squadron is represented on the CPS Liaison Committee with the Rideau Canal and St. Lawrence Islands National Park authorities. District and National representatives meet regularly with the Canadian Coast Guard, marine police units and other regulatory bodies to provide input on issues of marine safety.
  • Discounts: A number of companies, including charterers, give discounts to CPS members.
  • Social Activities: During the year the Squadron holds social and information functions.
  • Port Captains: CPS members to assist you in strange waters across Canada. Similar USPS net for travel in US.
