The Graduation Dinner and Dance was held at the Britannia Yacht Club on 27th April. For this year the Graduation Dinner preceded the Annual Meeting and the items of business at the dinner were kept to the absolute minimum. The guests of honour at the dinner were District Commander R.K. Wanless, JN, Commander W.H. Frost, AP of the Ottawa Power Squadron, Commodore Walter S. Blandy of Britannia Yacht Club and Mr Joseph Koscher of the Ottawa Board of Education.

The Annual General Meeting was held at the El Mirador Motor Inn on the evening of 29th April. The following officers were elected for the 1974/1975 Squadron year.

Commander Ralph C. Smith, JN
Lieut. Commander
and Executive Officer
George Schulz, AP
First Lieut. and Secretary Dianne Clipsham
First Lieut. and Treasurer Frank I. Algar, S
First Lieutenant Kurt V. Cardinal, AP
First Lieutenant Pat Leask, AP
Auditor Howard Holliday, S
James B. Craig, JN , was appointed Lieut. Commander
and Training Officer.

The outgoing Treasurer was able to report an operating profit of close to $1500.00. This was the result of no social events since June of 1973 other than the Graduation Dinner and a small increase in fees.

Out of the 107 registrations for the Boating Course in September, 1973 there were 36 who either dropped out of the course or who completed the course and did not write the examination. This is a perennial problem facing all of the squadrons in the Rideau District. Of the 71 students who wrote the examination there were 7 failures. This was a satisfactory pass rate of 90 percent. The results for the other courses were not available at the time of the A.G.M.

The close cooperation continued between the Britannia and Ottawa Power Squadrons for courses with small numbers of registrations. This applied to advanced courses and electives where the Squadrons pooled their resources to offer one course for the student members of both Squadrons.

The strength of the Squadron was now 165 full members, 50 lady associates and 5 juniors, a total membership of 222.

The Squadron Lieutenants appointed by the Commander were Ellen Devine, S, William K.K. McConnell, AP and David A. Plaunt, AP.

A Rafting Party to a "mystery destination" was held on the evening of Friday, 26th July. The arrangements were a repeat of the 1973 event.

In September there was little change from the previous year in the number of registrations for courses. The total was 159 of whom 94 were for the Boating Course, 39 for Seamanship, 12 for Advanced Piloting and 14 for other courses.

Despite the decision of the previous Bridge, winter social events were in the Squadron's plans this year. The first event was a buffet dinner and dance on 28th February at the Albertus Church Hall on Parkdale Avenue. This was a successful social activity with sufficient participants to prevent another "financial disaster".

The Annual Graduation Dinner and Dance was at the Britannia Yacht Club on the 26th April. Again this year the Graduation Dinner was held before the Annual General Meeting. The honoured guests at the dinner were District Commander R.K. Wanless, JN, Lieut. Commander A.E. Grier, AP, the Executive Officer of the Ottawa Power Squadron, Commodore Blair Cook of the Britannia Yacht Club and Mr. Joseph Koscher from the Ottawa Board of Education.

The Annual Dinner was the tenth anniversary of the Charter Night Dinner of 1965. Past Commander James B. Milne, AP, the first Commander of the Britannia Squadron, was presented with a framed reproduction of the original press photograph of the Chief Commander presenting him with the Britannia Power Squadron Warrant.
