The Annual General Meeting was held at the Britannia Yacht Club on the evening of 9th May. The following officers were elected for 1968/69:

Commander Peter R. Wilson, AP
Lieut. Commander
and Executive Officer
W.W.K. McConnell, AP
Lieut. and Secretary Ralph C. Smith, AP
Lieut. and Treasurer Percy B. Wooster
Lieutenant Donald H. Coghill
Lieutenant Howard B. Singleton
Auditor Leo Francis
Paul C. LaDelpha, AP was appointed Lieut. Commander
and Training Officer.

On the winter training program all of the twenty six students in the Piloting Course who wrote the examination were successful. On the other courses there were three failures out of the eighteen who wrote examinations.

It was emphasized at the Annual General Meeting that Britannia Power Squadron membership is not restricted to members of the Britannia Yacht Club. It is open to all qualified applicants and the number of members who are not Yacht Club members was increasing.

The Annual Dinner and Graduation Ceremonies were held at the Britannia Yacht Club on 16th May. With the new members from the winter Piloting Course there are now eighty nine full members in the Squadron and twenty five lady associates.

Again this year the Adult Basic Sailing Course had more applicants than could be accommodated. This course has proved to be very popular and a good source of recruits for Britannia Power Squadron.

Thirty yachts assembled for the Rendezvous at Pinhey's Point on 14th July. A Special General Meeting was called by Commander Peter R. Wilson aboard his yacht Dragoon V. The purpose of the meeting was to elect a replacement for the Commander who was resigning due to a Canadian Army transfer to Brussels. The Nominating Committee proposed the present Executive Officer, William McConnell. He was elected by unanimous vote of those present.

At the regular Executive Meeting on 6th August the Commander appointed John S.T. Swanson, N to be Lieut Commander and Executive Officer to replace Lieut. Commander McConnell.

At an Executive Meeting later in August the Commander appointed Marilyn Prichard to a new position in the Squadron of Assistant Training Officer. The general duties of the position were to relieve the Training Officer of some of his heavy workload.

During the year the Training Officer, Lieut. Commander Paul LaDelpha, addressed various service clubs as part of a publicity campaign. A survey of students in the autumm indicated no results from this activity. A similar address to the R.A. Yacht Club led to a number of enquiries and probably some registrations in the Piloting Course. The other publicity during the year was advertisements and news items in the Citizen, the Journal, and the West End Clarion. However the best advertising for new students was by word of mouth from members to non members including the Adult Sailing Course.

The Annual District One Day Conference was held at the Britannia Yacht Club on 15th September. The Executive of Britannia Power Squadron made the arrangements for the meeting. There were business sessions morning and afternoon with a luncheon break at the Town and Country Motel.

This September there were eighty four students registered for the Piloting Course including three who planned to join the Ottawa Power Squadron. This was twice the number of registrations recorded in September of the previous year. There was a total of fifty students registered in seven other courses. For the advanced and elective courses with small registrations the Britannia and Ottawa Squadrons pooled their resources.

The final social event of the Squadron year was a "Caribbean Cruise" dance on 14th February in the Wallace House at Rideau and Charlotte Streets. Dancers were asked to wear Calypso style costumes. The program was free punch from 2030 to 2100 hours, dancing to a six piece Calypso band with vocalist, cash bar and a cold buffet supper at midnight. This party was a great success. The members of the Executive who made arrangements for this evening planned for a break-even attendance of eighty. One hundred and thirty-one members and guests enjoyed themselves. The profit on this event compensated for the expected usual loss on the Annual Dinner.
