During May and early June the Squadron with the cooperation of the Britannia Yacht Club conducted a course for adults in basic sailing. This was not an official CPS course. It was a course of five evening lectures and five Saturday mornings of sailing. This course, which was repeated over five subsequent years, was characterized by minimum cost and no commitments from participants. It was a short program for beginners only. The registration fee of $3.00 was little more than the cost of the textbook. Members of B.Y.C. and BPS provided boats which varied from a "Y" Flyer to the two ocean yachts Alfredem and Negark. This course proved to be immensely popular and participation was limited to forty registrations each year.
Lieut. Commander Wilson resigned in June as he was being posted to Vietnam. H. Lloyd McDermott, was appointed Lieut. Commander and Executive Officer. For the summer of 1966 the planned Squadron Rendezvous was cancelled because there were no suitable dates that were not in conflict with major events at the Britannia Yacht Club.
In September, 1966 both Ottawa and Britannia Power Squadrons became part of the Ottawa Collegiate Institute Board's Adult Education Program. The Collegiate Board agreed to provide facilities, register students and collect fees. The Board would retain a small fixed fee per student and turn the balance over to CPS. The Power Squadrons would provide the instructors.
There were eighty five registrations for the Piloting Course. This course was offered at three different locations in Ottawa. The Squadron offered also courses in Advanced Piloting, Junior Navigator, Navigator and in five elective subjects.
